The Philadelphia Phillies are expected to trade for the Los Angeles Angels superstar

It was a tough end to what was largely a very successful 2024 season for the Philadelphia Phillies.

Despite having one of baseball's best records, the Phillies were eliminated in the National League Division Series by the New York Mets. The organization likely viewed this season as a failure because it had World Series expectations at the start of the year.

With Philadelphia bowing out sooner than hoped, they will likely make some significant roster moves this offseason.

Entering the winter, some of the postseason's glaring problems concerned the bullpen and outfield. The bullpen really struggled despite being pretty good in the regular season.

The outfield really let their bats down in the playoffs, with only Nick Castellanos contributing offensively for them.

With the outfield certainly a need for the Phillies, Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller recently suggested that Philadelphia should target Mike Trout in a potentially massive move.

“But what about the Phillies? The Angels would have to eat up much of Trout's remaining contract in any trade negotiation, especially one with Philadelphia, which is already looking at around $275 million in payroll in 2025. However, if Los Angeles keeps Trout's entire contract salary in 2025 before Philly starts paying his share in 2026 once JT Realmuto and Kyle Schwarber are off the books, the Phillies would be quite interested in adding the salary 11 times over All-Star hoping to fix the fact that he hit an outfielder six times in a postseason run that lasted just four games.”

Being a Philadelphia fan, people have long wanted Trout to return to the Phillies.

However, he remained extremely loyal to the Los Angeles Angels, which unfortunately meant that he barely saw any postseason action at this point in his career.

While Trout is an exciting name, he is not the same player he was five years ago. The slugger has dealt with a lot of injuries in recent years and owes a lot of money.

If Trout were healthy, he would be a huge improvement for Philadelphia in the outfield, but he simply hasn't shown the ability to stay on the field and those injuries have also impacted his playing performance.

To make a deal possible, Los Angeles would have to eat up a large portion of his contract. While it would be exciting, Trout probably isn't the missing piece to a title run for Philadelphia due to his injuries in recent years.
