The Rangers have reportedly “made their choice” with Igor Shesterkin’s contract.

The New York Rangers' contract situation with Igor Shesterkin is coming to a head.

With the regular season set to begin in just a few days, Shesterkin and Rangers management appear to be on the same page.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman is pretty confident the Rangers will get a deal done with Shesterkin, and it's just a matter of time.

“I believe it will work,” Friedman said. “I think the Rangers have made the decision to pay him and for me it's just a matter of what the numbers are going to be. “Until I'm told otherwise, I expect them to work out. Turn it off. I think the Rangers made their choice here.”

All signs point to Shesterkin becoming the highest-paid goaltender in NHL history.

Jeremy Swayman just signed an eight-year contract with the Bruins that pays him $8.25 million per season, and Shesterkin will almost certainly make more than Swayman.

Despite a report that said the Rangers would stop negotiations until next summer if a deal is not reached by the start of the regular season, the Rangers are not moving away from the announced deadline, according to NHL insider Frank Seravalli impress the conclusion of a deal with Shesterkin.

It's unclear whether the Rangers will wait until the offseason or a deal will be reached long before Shesterkin hits the open market, but if all reports are true, Rangers fans can rest easy about the superstar goaltender's future in New York.
