The SC State Fair kitchen sells cookies to fund scholarships for high school students

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) – While the South Carolina State Fair's food, rides and entertainment are something to celebrate, its scholarship program and Cookie Kitchen are also something to remember.

The Pro Kitchen Cookie Kitchen at the Rosewoods Salon at the South Carolina State Fairgrounds returned this year to sell warm chocolate cookies to raise money for the fair's Ride of Your Life scholarship.

The scholarship awards $10,000 to 53 high school students across South Carolina toward a college education at a public or private college, university or technical college in the Palmetto State. The scholarship is awarded to students in the amount of $2,500 per year.

Every cookie sold contributes to the scholarship program.

In addition to the Pro Kitchen Cookie Kitchen, Oliver Gospel Mission serves coffee at the same location as part of its Roastery program. Through the roastery, guests who don't feel like drinking cold milk can pair their cookies with a cup of coffee, and all funds go toward providing recovery and emergency services for the homeless.

According to Oliver Gospel Mission, purchasing a bag of coffee provides one night of shelter for someone in need. New this year is that the roastery also offers flavored coffees.
