The Seattle Seahawks coach reacts after the loss to the Rams

The Seattle Seahawks were hoping to get back on the winning streak in Week 9. However, they fell to the Los Angeles Rams 26-20 in overtime at Lumen Field on Sunday.

The loss to their NFC West rival saw the Seahawks slip from first to last place in the division, as the Rams are now above Seattle in a tiebreaker and the Arizona Cardinals won their game against the Chicago Bears.

Despite losing such an important game, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald was in relatively good spirits after the loss, at least in terms of thanking the fans for putting on their A game in support of the team on Sunday.

“I would say we are disappointed that we weren't able to take advantage of the chances we had to win this football game. That's what I want to say, first of all I want to thank our fans for coming out and being there. “When we started making some plays at the end of the half, at the end of the fourth quarter, they were with us the whole time “It is in our power and even more to create a nightmare at home and at the moment we cannot do it. So we have to get to work,” Macdonald said after the game.

The Seahawks had the 12 on their side and even had a 14-3 lead at halftime. However, they were unable to close out the game as the Rams began to erase their deficit on both sides of the ball.

After second-year pro Puka Nacua was ruled out, Demarcus Robinson was asked to take his place. He scored a one-yard touchdown early in the third quarter, making the game a single possession. Then, in the fourth quarter, the Seahawks pushed into the red zone, but then quarterback Geno Smith was picked off by Rams defender Kameron Kinchens, who returned his interception 103 yards for a touchdown, marking the longest defensive play in the NFL this season.

The Seahawks responded late in the game with a Jaxon Smith-Njigba touchdown to force overtime, which impressed Macdonald.

“I’m proud of our guys’ fight,” Macdonald said. “They gave everything. They played hard until the last second. After all the adversity that we faced or that we brought upon ourselves, I just felt like we didn't back down and we just fought. So we've got the right thing.” Guys. We just have to bring it to life. But our backs are against the wall and we have to go.

The Seahawks now have some time to reflect on and digest the loss, as the team's annual bye is coming up this week.

“The bye week is a big week for us to get better,” Macdonald said. “At the moment we have an idea of the symptoms, but what is happening in terms of the process, why we are not playing supplementary football in 60 minutes. We’re going to tackle that this week and get back to work and move forward.”
