The SEC football rankings begin in Week 6

Greetings, BBN!

Kentucky is no longer in last place! The Wildcats are 1-2, with a College Football Playoff landscape that is changing the big upset of Ole Miss on their own turf, moving them from 16th to 12th and the Rebels to the 0-1 club has banned.

The win marked a significant dent in Ole Miss's SEC Championship Game and CFP campaigns, but they still have the entire rest of the SEC roster to make up for it. However, your margin of error will be razor thin from now on.

Georgia also suffered a setback as Alabama earned a thrilling 41-34 victory in Tuscaloosa last Saturday. This win will likely keep the Tide above the Bulldogs in the standings for the rest of the season. The key to recovering from the loss and getting back on track for Atlanta is a win at Texas on October 19th.

Alabama, Texas, Tennessee and others, however, are undefeated in the league and simply have to stay that way. Life for the Tide and Longhorns couldn't be much better than it is now. Here's the full breakdown of the rankings for Week 6:

SEC Rankings Week 6

Notes:

  • Kentucky's win over Ole Miss was their first road win against the Rebels since 1978 and their best road win against a team since Penn State in 1977.
  • Kentucky is 11/11 in field goals made this season.
  • Texas fans cheered with joy as Georgia succumbed to flooding in Tuscaloosa. The Longhorns will not face the Crimson Tide in the regular season, but can enter their home game against Georgia knowing that the Bulldogs already have a league loss.
  • Oklahoma and Texas both won their first games as SEC teams last Saturday. The Sooners rallied from an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit to win at Auburn, and No. 1 Texas took care of business at home against Mississippi State.
  • Alabama not only survived a battle with Georgia, but blew a 28-0 lead. With 2:31 left in the game, Georgia took a 34-33 lead, but just 13 seconds later, the Tide ran 75 yards for the game-winning score.
