The Sixers begin their pre-season with a match against the New Zealand Breakers

Sixers basketball is back!

(Somehow.)

The team will begin its preseason games on Monday night at the Wells Fargo Center against the NBL's New Zealand Breakers.

The Sixers spent last week in training camp in the Bahamas. We have little indication of who will play who didn't win. It seems highly unlikely that Joel Embiid will be used. The 2022-23 MVP has had no issues during camp and the team has been open about their desire to move him forward smartly and slowly. Veterans Kyle Lowry and Eric Gordon also did not compete. When Paul George, the team's big free-agent signing, spoke on Friday, it didn't sound like he was making his Philly debut on Monday.

While it's a little disappointing that these four likely won't play, there will still be plenty of intrigue with the Sixers' lineup. We got to see All-Star Tyrese Maxey along with fellow starters Kelly Oubre, Jr. and Caleb Martin. Andre Drummond will likely start in place of Embiid, which would mean intriguing rookie Adem Bona would also get a start.

There will definitely be competition for rotation spots between returning players Ricky Council IV and KJ Martin, as well as French striker Guerschon Yabusele. This will be the first chance for this trio to potentially stand out from the crowd. Rookie first-rounder Jared McCain, who turned heads in camp, is also likely to see significant action.

The Breakers are on tour in America and are playing against three NBA teams. They lost to the Jazz in Utah on Saturday night. After their game against the Sixers, they travel to Oklahoma for a game against the Thunder on Friday. A fun highlight for tonight's game: The Breakers have signed the 1.90 meter tall former NBA center Tacko Fall for their time in the States.

We won't be able to glean much from this, but it will just be nice to see Sixers basketball.
