The trailer for the TV series “Cruel Intentions” is full of Easter eggs and film callbacks

Do you want to make a bet, you stupid bunny? How many Easter eggs and callbacks to the original Cruel intentions Can you find anything in the trailer for the Amazon TV series adaptation?

New footage from this year Cruel intentions (on Prime Video November 21) is out today and is overflowing with references and inside jokes to the 1999 classic starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon and Selma Blair. We're not just talking about the presence of original actor Sean Patrick Thomas, who starred as cello teacher Ronald Clifford in that first film and now plays Professor Hank Chadwick at Manchester College in the TV drama.

The trailer begins immediately with a new cover of “Bitter Sweet Symphony,” which was originally recorded by The Verve and famously played over the final scenes of the film. Another snap shows a new pool scene between two of the series' leads, reminiscent of Witherspoon's innocent dean's daughter Annette Hargrove getting into a pool with Phillippe's notorious heartthrob Sebastian Valmont. There's also the allure of a new “practice kiss” make-out scene, similar to Kathryn Merteuil and Cece Caldwell's iconic image of Gellar and Blair locking lips in Central Park.

One character even makes a joke about losing her hymen while riding a “beautiful palomino named Lucky.” This is undoubtedly an indication of that Cruel intentions 2the far less culturally significant 2000 sequel, with a scene in which Cherie Claymon is aroused by Keri Lynn Pratt while riding horses in Central Park.

The Cruel intentions The TV series is set at Manchester College. Sarah Catherine Hook plays the Gellar-esque role of Caroline Merteuil and Zac Burgess plays the Phillippe-esque Lucien Belmont. When a brutal intimidation incident threatens to close all fraternities on campus, these cousins ​​hatch a plan for Lucien to seduce Annie Grover (Savannah Lee Smith), the daughter of the Vice President of the United States, who is studying at the university.
