Tuesday is Election Day, the last day residents of Milwaukee County and across the U.S. can vote in the 2024 presidential election and other political races.

If early voting is any indication, voters should prepare for possible long lines at polling stations. Because lines may be out the door, Milwaukee voters may want to bring an umbrella in addition to a photo ID (and proof of residency if you need to register or re-register to vote).

According to the National Weather Service, Milwaukee may see rain throughout the day on Tuesday, with a chance of thunderstorms in the early morning hours. This is due to a system moving across the plains into the upper Great Lakes region, said Kevin Wagner, NWS meteorologist based in Milwaukee-Sullivan. Milwaukee can expect temperatures in the high 60s for most of the day Tuesday, dropping to the upper 50s in the evening.

The chance of precipitation will be highest between 11:00 p.m. Monday and 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, peaking at nearly 100% early Tuesday morning. According to the weather service, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected, with the heaviest rainfall occurring Monday night into Tuesday morning.

There is a risk of thunderstorms Monday evening through Tuesday morning, with the highest probability between 9:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. The chance of precipitation will decrease to about 45% to 65% in Milwaukee between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. Tuesday. Sunny and dry weather is expected for Wednesday morning.

In addition to rain and possible storms, southerly winds of 15 to 20 miles per hour and gusts of 15 to 20 miles per hour are forecast all day Tuesday. Waters in eastern Wisconsin counties along Lake Michigan, including Milwaukee and Ozaukee counties, are under a small craft advisory through at least Tuesday evening and a storm advisory through Tuesday afternoon.
