THE WEEKEND

Looking ahead to the weekend, a stronger front will approach, potentially bringing light rain chances, particularly in the western mountainous regions of West Virginia. After this system pushes through, colder air will follow and bring us back to where we should be by the end of October.

NEXT WEEK

Overall, this pattern change marks a transition to cooler fall weather, with some systems potentially having a minor impact next week.

Some of our valleys could experience freezing or below freezing temperatures early Monday morning, particularly in the mountains, including the Greenbrier, New River and Shenandoah valleys.

Overall, the week starts cooler but near average as high pressure continues to bring calm.

Very little rain is expected over the next 10 days, meaning the fire risk remains high.

AUTUMN BURNING SEASON

The fall fire season runs from October 15th to November 30th. Never burn on warm, dry, windy days and check local fire regulations in your area. If you must burn outdoors, never leave your fire unattended. Remember that about 90% of forest fires are caused by humans!

The Atlantic hurricane season comes to an end at the end of November, leaving some time for late-season developments. Some models suggest activity in the Caribbean could increase late next week, leading to a possible development. At the moment there is no reason to worry.
