Halle Bailey and DDG may be ending their romance, but there's no shortage of love.

DDG announced that he and The Little Mermaid star have separated in an emotional statement on social media on Thursday.

“After much thought and heartfelt conversations, Halle and I have decided to go our separate ways,” the rapper wrote in his Instagram story. “The decision was not easy, but we believe it is the best thing for both of us in the future. I cherish the time we spent together and the love we shared.”

Bailey and DDG, whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., made their relationship public in March 2022 when the “I'm Geekin” rapper shared a romantic tribute to Bailey's 22nd Birthday on Instagram, according to People magazine. The two met through social media after DDG messaged Bailey online, the Chloe x Halle singer revealed in an August 2022 interview with Essence.

The former couple welcomed their first child, a son named Halo, in December 2023.

“Despite the changes in our relationship, our love for each other remains deep and true,” DDG continued. “We are still best friends and love each other. As we focus on our individual journeys and our roles as co-parents, we cherish the bond we have built and the beautiful moments we have shared.”

He concluded: “As we navigate this transition, we ask for your understanding and support.”

Halle Bailey talks 'transformative' relationship with DDG

In an interview with People magazine in May 2023, Bailey spoke about her relationship with DDG and its impact on her personal growth.

“The best thing about young love is that you can continue to find yourself on this journey of loving someone else,” Bailey told the outlet at the time. “I feel like things change when love enters your life more.”

Later that year, for Halloween, the couple tapped into their playful side by paying tribute to iconic pop culture couples, like R&B icons Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, and Janet Jackson and Tupac Shakur in their “Poetic Justice” roles.

“I've definitely discovered more in myself as a woman,” Bailey added to People. “It’s a really cool thing to go through, but also a transformative experience.”
