Three keys to the Bears' 24-18 victory over the Rams, including a big play from DE Montez Sweat

With a 24:18 win over the Rams on Sunday, the Bears calmed things down for the time being. Everything looked reasonably good, from quarterback Caleb Williams' efficiency to offensive coordinator Shane Waldron's playmaking.

It was the best thing they saw and felt all season. There was so much commotion in the locker room afterward that wide receiver DJ Moore lost track of what someone had just asked him about the game.

“I’m just too happy we won,” Moore said with a laugh. “Everything fell into place and went as we had planned.”

Here's how they did it:

Williams is making progress

Williams still hasn't changed the game, but he wasn't a game-wrecker on Sunday either, and that's a good start for a rookie. He had his highest completion percentage (73.9) and passer rating (106.6) and made two crucial passes on touchdown drives in the second half.

Ground game throws

Running used to be the only thing the Bears could do, but Waldron couldn't figure out how to spark that part of the offense through the first three games. Things finally worked out on Sunday when D'Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson worked together. Swift, by far the faster and more skilled of the two, ran for 93 yards and a touchdown and 72 yards receiving, while power back Johnson ran seven times for 26 yards.

Welding stars

Defensive lineman Montez Sweat is the highest-paid player on the roster, and the Bears need him to perform no matter how creative opponents get with blocking schemes and double teams. Sweat came through in the second quarter with a strip sack of Matt Stafford at the 13-yard line, leading to a Bears touchdown and a 7-6 lead.
