Tim Walz is accused of bringing the daughter of a Chinese Communist Party official to the brink of suicide during the affair in the 1980s

Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz had a love affair with the daughter of a Chinese Communist Party official while teaching in Foshan that was so tempestuous it drove her to the brink of suicide, The Post has learned.

Jenna Wang, 59, told The Post in a telephone interview Monday that she fell head over heels for the current Minnesota governor when he was a young high school English teacher in Foshan, Guangdong Province, China.

Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz had a romantic relationship with the daughter of a Chinese Communist Party official, according to a new report.
Wang had expected the passionate 1989 affair to end in a marriage proposal – but instead it resulted in a breakup that led her to consider taking her own life.

“I was deeply offended and hurt and had to leave that place because many people knew we had a relationship,” Wang explained, saying Walz had hinted that he wanted to marry her.

That included sending Wang letters after she returned to the U.S. the following summer and even asking for a passport photo of her to be sent back to Denver, she said, implying that Walz helped her apply for a visa .

“His lack of character as a man, as a responsible person who worked in education or the military,” she added. “I thought he loved me too. I loved him.”

The affair occurred while Walz was teaching in Foshan.

The Daily Mail first reported the allegations from Wang, who said she fled China for Italy just years after her ill-fated romance with Walz.

According to an open letter Wang also wrote to warn American voters about Walz, the two were at first “like husband and wife” – drinking tea and holding hands in private, without the vigilance of their father, Bin Hui, a trade unionist was a leader in her hometown of Guilin.

Hui would have been upset if he had seen his daughter fall in love with a Westerner, Wang told The Post.

Walz, now 60, came to China through the nonprofit WorldTeach, and the two made contacts while Wang taught at a nearby middle school.

The young lovers enjoyed karaoke together and Walz showered Wang with gifts, including gold jewelry and high-waisted blue jeans.

But then he became “the type of man a mother would warn her daughter not to get involved with,” Wang’s open letter continues.

“Although it is true that you had not promised marriage before returning to China, marriage was what I had accepted,” she wrote. “Marriage was also what you made me believe in – and others too, including your colleague with whom we had tea.”

According to Wang, the two disagreed about whether she truly loved Walz or just wanted to get a visa, which she said came as a “shock” because she had been willing to give up her entire life in China to join Walz's home state of Nebraska .

“I gave it up to be with Tim, get married and start a family,” Wang told the Daily Mail.

“Now that I knew he wasn't going to marry me, I felt cheap and ordinary, like I was being treated like a prostitute.”

They never met again, but Walz returned to China in 1993 as director of an annual summer student program that connects high schoolers from Nebraska and Minnesota with Chinese institutions.

The future governor of the Land of 10,000 Lakes married his wife Gwen Whipple the following year upon his return to the United States.

The wedding took place on June 4, the fifth anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre, so that the Walzes could have “a date that he will always remember,” his wife later recalled.

“Tim lied about Tiananmen Square, and he lied about other things too,” Wang told the Daily Mail.

“This is a very pivotal moment in history and a man like this does not appear to have the character and integrity to do one of the most important jobs in the world.”

Representatives for the Harris-Walz campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
