Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested in Tennessee on Thursday for alleged drunk driving and possession of a handgun.

According to TMZ Sports, Cutler was charged with driving under the influence, failure to exercise due care, violating the implied consent law and possession of a handgun under the influence.

Franklin police confirmed to TMZ that Cutler was taken to the Williamson County Jail and released after posting $5,000 bail.

No further details regarding Cutler's arrest are available at this time.

Cutler had a 12-year NFL career with three different teams from 2006-17. He was originally selected 11th overall by the Denver Broncos and spent three seasons with the club. He threw for 4,528 yards and made the Pro Bowl his senior year in Denver.

The Broncos traded Cutler to the Chicago Bears before the 2009 season. He led them to the division title and an appearance in the NFC Championship Game in his second season with the Bears.

Chicago went 27-13 with Cutler as its starting quarterback in the three seasons from 2010 to 2012. The team had a streak of four consecutive undefeated seasons from 2010 to 2013, the longest such streak for the franchise since 1984 to 1988.

After eight seasons with the Bears, Cutler retired and took a broadcasting job with Fox Sports in May 2017. Three months later, he was lured back onto the field when the Miami Dolphins needed a quarterback after Ryan Tannehill suffered a season-ending injury.

After the 2017 season, Cutler finally retired. He finished his career with a record of 74-79 in 153 starts.
