Today's top TV and streaming picks: Showtrial, 21 Jump Street and Social Studies

Show trial BBC One, 9pm It's Sunday evening, it's BBC One, so that can only mean one thing – an episode of a major television series. Over the last few months we've been treated to a dark crime drama Sherwoodwhich was quickly followed by a fast-paced psychological thriller Night sleeper. Now Show trial is back for a second run. The first series was created by Ben Richards, whose CV also includes The Tunnel, Party Animals and Spooks. It aired in 2021 and focused on the trial of an arrogant young woman from a wealthy background who was accused of killing a fellow work college student. class family, with each episode telling the story from both sides.

It proved to be a ratings success, so Richards was commissioned to create another story in the same format. “We decided to make the series more of an anthology, so that each series presents its own case with completely new characters – a new suspect, new defense attorneys and prosecutors,” says Richards. “At the time, I wasn’t really thinking about climate change so much as I was thinking about activism and protest. That was kind of a starting point.”

As a result, the plot explores what happens after a climate activist is fatally injured in a hit-and-run accident and barely lives long enough to name his killer – cocky police officer Justin Mitchell (Michael Socha). As public outrage reaches fever pitch, it's up to Mitchell's lawyer (Adeel Akhtar), known for winning hopeless cases, to mount a convincing defense.

21 Jump Street RTÉ2, 9pm Comedy inspired by the 1980s television series, starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as youthful-looking police officers Schmidt and Jenko, who are sent undercover as high school students on a mission to take down a drugs ring during they simultaneously relive the horrors of their youth.

It's what's inside Netflix, now streaming One person's high-camp farce is another person's favorite offering at SXSW and Sundance. Either way, Greg Jardin is responsible for this “dark thriller sci-fi comedy” in which a group of “friends” conduct a group body swap experiment in the run-up to one of their weddings. ​ Social studies Disney+, now streaming This new documentary series from Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Lauren Greenfield (Queen of Versailles And Generational wealth) follows a group of teenagers over the course of a school year in Los Angeles and examines how the generation grew up with social media.
