Trey Hendrickson was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 9

Bengals DE Trey Hendrickson was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week today for his performance in the team's 41-24 win over Las Vegas in Week 9.

Hendrickson posted a career-high four sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defended. He became the fourth player in team history to record four or more sacks in a game and the first since former DE player Antwan Odom had five on September 20, 2009 against Green Bay.

Three of Hendrickson's sacks against the Raiders occurred in the fourth quarter, including a strip sack on QB Desmond Ridder that led to the recovery by LB Logan Wilson at the Las Vegas 13-yard line. It was Hendrickson's first FF of the season and his 10th since joining the Bengals before the 2021 season, who are tied for second-most in the NFL during that span.

Hendrickson's performance increased his season total to 11 sacks, the highest in the NFL through Week 9. This year's tally, following his career-high 17.5 sacks in 2023, makes him the second player in team history to record double-digit sacks in consecutive seasons, joining former DE/DT Eddie Edwards, who had 12 and 10 in 1980 and 1981, respectively.

This is Hendrickson's second AFC Defensive Player of the Week honor in his career. He previously received the honor in Week 3 of the 2022 season. Since the start of the 2021 season, Bengals players have combined for 18 weekly awards (offensive, defensive and special teams), tied for third-most in the NFL during that span.
