Trick-or-Treat Weather Update: Put the witch hats on the kids

Trick-or-Treat Weather Update: Put the witch hats on the kids

A cold front will move across Michigan this afternoon and early evening. This cold front will bring three significant weather conditions.

The cold front will produce a number of thunderstorms and lots of wind. Temperatures will drop behind the cold front, but not to levels we would consider cold.

In fact, it will be a very warm trick-or-treating season for most of Lower Michigan. Here is the temperature forecast for 6 p.m. Note that the temperature will still be in the 70s across southeast Lower Michigan. Even behind the cold front, temperatures will only dip into the 50s in far western Lower Michigan, where it is still quite warm for this time of year.

Yesterday I wrote about the possibility of a rapid severe thunderstorm. While severe storms are not likely at this time, there will still be a short line of thunderstorms in the second half of the afternoon. The line of thunderstorms would be so narrow that you could wait out the 15-minute to half-hour downpour and then continue trick-or-treating.

Here's the radar forecast from 12pm to 8pm so you can take a look at the rapid rains. There could be a lot of showers in the Detroit area late this evening.

With today's patchy rains, you can watch the radar and enjoy a dry hour or two trick-or-treating, except in the Upper Peninsula. It starts to snow there in the evening.

Here in Michigan, there were many Halloween celebrations when the first snowflakes fell. This will not be the case for Lower Michigan today. It will actually feel more like spring than late fall.
