Trump claims Kamala Harris is lying about her job at McDonald's

However, Mr Trump has claimed without evidence that Ms Harris's story about being served french fries was “fake” and vowed to visit a McDonald's himself.

In an interview with Fox News on Friday, he said: “Oh, I’m leaving. Because she lied.”

As for Ms Harris's story about working at McDonald's as a student, he added: 'We looked at it. Unless someone thinks of something. We checked it. They said she never worked here. She even chose the store. We went to the manager. The manager has been there forever. “Do you remember her?” “No, she never worked here.” You know.”

Ms. Harris's allies have compared Trump's claim to his false “birther” theory that his predecessor, Barack Obama, was not born in the United States.

The Harris campaign faced a challenge similar to Mr. Obama's dilemma of how to respond to the allegations without giving them more airtime.

When asked about Trump's claims last month, Ms Harris insisted that “I” worked at McDonald's, adding: “It wasn't a small job, like I made the fries.” I mean, you know, I did that.”
