Trump rebuked by Arnold Palmer's daughter for making fun of late golf legend's penis size | US elections 2024

Arnold Palmer's daughter says Donald Trump disrespected her late father's memory by celebrating the size of the golf champion's penis at a campaign rally over the weekend.

“Tribute locker room anecdotes … seemed disrespectful and inappropriate to me,” Peg Palmer Wears told ABC News on Monday, two days after the former president publicly suggested that her father was well-endowed.

Wears added that “the people who come to these rallies” that Trump is holding as he seeks a second presidency “deserve content about his plans as a candidate.” She specifically called on him to address “some of the threats he's made to people,” an apparent reference to how he recently suggested using the U.S. military against his political opponents if voters were to vote during the Vote in the presidential election on November 5th.

“These are important issues that people should discuss as they prepare for the election, and using my father to cover up the important things just seems unacceptable to me,” Wears said.

Trump was speaking to supporters Saturday in Palmer's hometown of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, at a regional airport named after him when the former president suddenly summoned the genitals of the famous golfer, an old acquaintance.

“Arnold Palmer was a pure man,” Trump noted. “When he was showering with other pros, they came out of there and said, 'Oh my God.' This is unbelievable.'”

It wasn't the first time Trump spoke about Palmer in this way. As Mediaite noted, some copies of New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman's Trump book “Confidence Man” recount how the former president prepared to host a rally in Latrobe in 2020 in the Oval Office and bragged about it to guests Having seen Palmer undressing at the local country club there.

Trump made a point of mentioning “the size of (Palmer’s) genitals” that day, the book’s introduction says.

Appearing on CNN's “State of the Union” on Sunday, one of Trump's most prominent allies, U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson, repeatedly refused to defend the Republican presidential candidate's recent comments about Palmer.

But on the same newscast, a vocal supporter of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris said Trump's comments Saturday in Latrobe showed how unfocused he is on important issues.

“Is this the kind of person we want as President of the United States?” asked independent US Senator Bernie Sanders.

Wears used her conversation with ABC on Monday to join those who voiced their disapproval, saying she was unimpressed with the way Trump was using “someone he admires to boost his own image.” be.

Palmer – whose name also adorns an iced tea and lemonade drink – amassed more than 60 victories in professional golf tournaments, including seven major titles. He died in 2016 at age 87, just over a month before Trump won the presidency.

Wears told ABC she is an independent voter in North Carolina, one of several swing states that are closely contested and expected to decide the race between Trump and Harris. She told the station that she planned to vote in the November election, but declined to reveal who she would be voting for.
