Tumblers sold at Wawa stores have been recalled after their metal straws injured customers

Tumblers sold at Wawa stores have been recalled after their metal straws injured customers

About 60,000 drinking glasses sold at Wawa stores in eight states and the District of Columbia are being recalled after the manufacturer received four reports of cuts, according to a notice released Thursday by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The metal straws in drinking glasses pose a risk of cuts to consumers' hands and mouths, the statement says.

The recall involves 24-ounce reusable plastic cups with “Wawa” printed on them that were sold in August for about $13 each, said Halo Branded Solutions of Sterling, Illinois, which imported the cups made in China.

The cups were sold in four styles: “The Mermaid” in pink and green, “Island Surf” in blue and yellow, “Sailor Breeze” in brown and orange and “The Galaxy” in blue and pink. All have a light brown lid.

Individuals who purchased the cups should stop using the metal straw and contact Halo for instructions on how to obtain a replacement silicone straw after returning the metal straw.

Consumers also have the option to return the cup and metal straw and receive a refund in the form of a $15 gift card. Consumers should not return the recalled items to Wawa stores, the company added.
