The most heated sideline in college football on Saturday came from just one man.

Louisiana-Monroe offensive line coach Cameron Blankenship became angry with one of his players, offensive lineman Drew Hutchinson, during a 28-23 loss to Marshall.

It's unclear what specifically triggered it, but Blankenship winced in anger, tried to put on his headset and followed Hutchinson to the bench, where he shoved the redshirt sophomore. Blankenship only stopped when another player intervened and pushed him away.

Monroe ran the ball quite well against Marshall, averaging 6.8 yards per carry from non-quarterbacks, but three sacks, three three-and-outs and one interception kept her just low enough against the Thunder Herd lost, even though they exceeded them overall.

The issue of Blankenship did not come up in ULM's edited video of head coach Bryant Vincent's postgame press conference, although the show signaled it felt criticism by limiting replies to her tweet about the final score. They haven't done that in other defeats.

ULM later released a statement calling Blankenship's behavior “unacceptable” and promising internal disciplinary action against the coach. The program did not provide any specific information.

According to the ULM website, Blankenship is in his first season as the Warhawks' offensive line coach and has held the same job at New Mexico and UAB. Hutchinson is in his first year after redshirting in 2022 and did not see any playing time as a freshman last year.
