Undecided races of the 2024 election: Live results and analysis

While all eyes were on state and federal races, mayoral elections in some major cities remained under the radar. Yesterday we previewed the races in Portland, Oregon and San Francisco, where it looked like the existing political establishment was in for an upset. So far, it looks like these predictions are coming true.

In Portland, local philanthropist and businessman Keith Wilson appears to have an advantage in the race, according to unofficial Multnomah County election results. In the first round of 20-person ranked-choice voting, Wilson has a lead of about 16 percentage points over Councilman Rene Gonzalez, his nearest challenger. That lead remains fairly stable until the 17th round of eliminations, when Councilwoman Carmen Rubio jumps ahead of Gonzalez into second place. With each subsequent elimination, Wilson's lead over Rubio only grows, and he is currently ahead by 26 percentage points in the final round. Wilson had put his business background and tough stance on homelessness at the center of his campaign.

Meanwhile, London Breed in San Francisco faces similar headwinds based on its reported results so far. In the 15-person ranked choice election, she starts with 25 percent of the vote in the first round, ahead of philanthropist Daniel Lurie with about 28 percent of the vote. This rough split remains fairly stable until the 12th elimination, after which Lurie is at 43 percent of the vote while Breed only receives 31 percent. In the final round, Lurie currently leads Breed 56-43. Lurie, an heir to the Levi Strauss fortune, has spent much of his career in nonprofit work, focusing on the campaign's core issues of homelessness and criminal justice, issues that London Breed struggled with with the electorate.

Finally, the situation in the third mayoral election campaign, which we announced yesterday in Las Vegas, is a little bleaker. While former Democratic Rep. Shelley Berkley leads former Republican state representative and current City Council member Victoria Seaman 53-47, the Nevada Secretary of State says this vote may be mostly or entirely an early vote, making it difficult is to say whether that lead will hold (although both candidates have had partisan ties in the past, the mayoral election is technically nonpartisan).
