Victor Wembanyama's historic 5×5 game leads Spurs to victory over Jazz

After a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Spurs looked to bounce back with a win over the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City. This was the Spurs' first SEGABABA of the season, but the Spurs still played like the more rested team. After falling behind 30-19 in the first quarter, the Spurs trailed by just six points at halftime. As the third quarter began, the Spurs took control of the game on both sides. They outscored Utah 30-14 with plenty of forced turnovers, including an NBA record nine team steals in a quarter. The Spurs kept their foot on the gas pedal in the fourth period and cruised to a 106-88 win. The Spurs finished the game with 17 steals and Utah had 26 turnovers.

Ladies and gentlemen, Victor Wembanyama has done it again. He recorded his second 5×5 game with 25 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, five steals and five blocks. He is also the record holder for most three-pointers in a 5×5 game (four). It seems that he took the criticism of the “soft style of play” seriously, as this was the most offensively aggressive game he has played so far. He attempted 13 three-pointers and Gregg Popovich said after the game that he wanted him to continue shooting from distance.

We should have known a masterclass was coming after seeing Wemby's Halloween costume come into play.

Pull-up three in transition? Real cash homie.

Any time a Wemby/CP3 pick-and-roll takes place, you can bet it will be a highlight. Wemby put Walker Kessler on a poster! I'm glad we got to see more of this P&R action in the game.

In exchange, Julian Champagnie finds Wemby for the breakaway slam! The fact that he barely had to jump to cover that distance should show you how easy it is for him.

This piece was influenced by Wemby. He first steals Keyonte George, then executes the fastbreak and then gets a behind-the-back dime to Champagnie for the goal. 7'4″ tall demigod.

Here's another look if you want a different angle.

Chris Paul had his best game as a Spur with a near triple-double (19 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds and two steals). As mentioned above, we got to see more of the Wemby/CP3 P&R action in this game, and here they show off the two-man win-and-go special.

Jeremy Sochan continued his solid start to the season with 11 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. He took a backseat to CP3 and Wemby in this game but still made an impression on both sides. He still has a snag in his sweater, but if you give him that much room, the three will fall.

Harrison Barnes did it against OKC, and Jeremy did it against Utah. A lazy pass was intercepted to trigger the two-handed slam!

Stephon Castle finds an open Sochan near the basket and Jeremy shows his patience with the pump fake and slam on the other side!

Sandro Mamukelashvili had crucial playing time, scoring 10 points and a board in 11 minutes. His basketball IQ is underrated and he shows it here by cutting to the basket after a Wemby dime for an alley-oop finish! Two great playmakers on the court always leads to great chemistry in basketball.

Show your hops and your speed! Mamu finishes the fastbreak dunk with some ferocity!

Harrison Barnes had a solid game with eight points, two rebounds and a block. He was a great plug-and-play player for the Silver & Black, and here he catches this Wemby dime for the easy dunk that ties the game in the third period.

Stephon Castle had a decent game off the bench with eight points, four rebounds, a dime and a steal. Here he sprints out in transition and catches a Sochan pass for the slam!

This was a much-needed comeback win after a disappointing loss. This Spurs team also shows that they are a far better defensive team than last year. With Devin Vassell returning soon, look for the offense to become more stable.

Finally, here are the full game highlights.

The Spurs face the Minnesota Timberwolves at Frost Bank Center on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. (CST) on FanDuel Sports Network – Southwest.
