Viral images of early Texas vote counts are fabricated – Alex Demas

A graphic is circulating on social media showing Kamala Harris leading Donald Trump in the vote count in Texas. The image, originally published on November 3, features CNN branding and shows Harris winning the state with 51.8 percent of the vote.

“Hey Texas, it looks like they're stealing the election from you,” reads a post of the image, which has more than 2.2 million views on X.

The image is fake and was not broadcast by CNN. “This image is completely fabricated and manipulated and has never aired on any CNN platform,” a network representative said The shipping fact check in an email.

A similar image with slightly different numbers appeared on platforms like Threads over the weekend.

This version does not contain CNN branding, but upon closer inspection it still appears to be significantly changed. If you zoom in on the text below, you can see noticeable irregularities in the font. While many Texas residents voted during early voting, vote counts for the state are not yet available. Texas counties with more than 100,000 residents began counting early and mail-in ballots on Nov. 1, when the state's early voting period ended. However, the state will not begin releasing official vote counts until polls statewide close at 7 p.m. on Nov. 5. Counties with fewer than 100,000 residents must wait until the morning of Election Day to begin counting.
