NEW DELHI: The Pakistan cricket team is not exactly known for its performances in the outfield.
There have been numerous videos online where misinterpretations, misjudgments and misunderstandings have resulted in hilarious memes.
But two great performances in the field from Irfan Khan during the first ODI against it Australia on Melbourne Cricket Ground on Monday could force some fans to change their minds about Pakistan's fielding.
In the 20th over of the Australian innings, bowled by Shaheen Afridi, Irfan Khan gave glimpses of his brilliant fielding performances on two consecutive deliveries.
Josh Inglis pulled the third ball of the over to the deep square fence, where Irfan jumped high in the air and palmed the ball back into play.
But the replays showed that before he jumped, Irfan had his foot on the cushions and was waiting for the jump. The referees decided it was a six according to the rules.
Inglis again pulled Afridi's next delivery, this time slightly towards mid-wicket, and Irfan raced to his left to complete a lovely two-handed running catch.
Inglis fell after a 42-ball 49.
Cricket Australia shared the video of the two deliveries on their X-handle:

So it's fair to say that Pakistan's fielders have improved over time, but they continue to provide excitement with both skill and the occasional laugh.
