The musician wrote the song to “stand up for the women of the United States and their daughters and granddaughters.”

Stevie Nicks came by Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform their current single “The Lighthouse.” Performing with her live band, Nicks gave an atmospheric, passionate performance of the song, a call to action for women's rights that she wrote shortly afterward Roe v. Wade was knocked over.

“Don’t let them take your power/Don’t leave it alone in the final hours,” she sang during the late-night show, which was scheduled to air on the eve of Election Day. “Don’t close your eyes and hope for the best/The darkness is out there, the light is fading fast.”

“The Lighthouse” was co-written with Magnus Birgersson and Vincent Villuis and produced by Nicks along with Dave Cobb and Sheryl Crow, the latter contributing guitar and bass.

“I wrote this song a few months later Roe v. Wade has been repealed,” Nicks said in a statement when she officially released the song in September. “It seemed like overnight people were asking, 'What can we do about this as a collective force?'” For me, it was about writing a song. It took a while because I was traveling. Then early one morning I was watching the news on TV and a certain news anchor said something that felt like she was talking to me – explaining to me what the loss was Roe v. Wade would mean. I wrote the song the next morning and recorded it that evening.”

She added: “That was September 6, 2022. I've been working on it since then. I have often said to myself, “This may be the most important thing I have ever done.” Standing up for the women of the United States and their daughters and granddaughters—and for the men who love them. This is an anthem.”

Nicks recently performed “The Lighthouse.” Saturday Night Live along with “Edge of Seventeen,” the classic from her 1981 debut solo album. The performance marked her first appearance on the sketch comedy show since 1983.
