Weather in Chicago: Halloween begins with rain, storms and strong winds

A strong storm system is moving into the Chicago area tonight, bringing rain, storms and gusty winds on Halloween.

A wind advisory goes into effect at 10 a.m. Thursday for westerly wind gusts of up to 45 miles per hour. The advisory area includes McHenry, Lake (IL), DeKalb, Kane, DuPage, Cook, Kendall and northern Will Counties.

Showers and storms will move across the area in the early hours of Thursday ahead of a strong cold front that will cause temperatures to drop on Halloween. While the overall severe threat appears low, there is a small chance of an isolated strong or severe storm tomorrow morning.

Rain and storms will move out of the area by midday and we will see decreasing cloud cover throughout the afternoon. Trick-or-treaters should prepare for temperatures reaching the upper 50s and westerly winds gusting up to 40-45 mph.

The sun returns on Friday with seasonally cool temperatures in the 50s. Some warmer air will arrive over the weekend with highs in the 60s on Saturday under partly cloudy skies.

It will rain again on Sunday and Monday. Temperatures will be in the lower 60s on Sunday, then in the upper 60s to near 70 early next work week.
