West Ham's Mohammed Kudus faces charges from FA following Tottenham red card incident

West Ham's Mohammed Kudus faces charges from FA following Tottenham red card incident

Mohammed Kudus could face further punishment after the Football Association (FA) charged the West Ham United striker following his red card at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Ghana international was sent off after violent behavior in the second half of West Ham's 4-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Referee Andy Madley initially showed Kudus a yellow card after he appeared to kick out defender Micky van de Ven before shoving the Netherlands international in the face.

He then shoved midfielder Pape Mate Sarr in the face before video assistant referee (VAR) Chris Kavanagh recommended Madley review the incidents on screen.

Madley improved his decision from a yellow card to a red card. A violent offense carries a minimum three-game suspension, but this charge opens up the possibility of further punishment.

The FA announced on Tuesday that Kudus had been charged with alleged “inappropriate behavior and/or violent behavior” after he was shown a red card.

Charges have also been laid against both clubs: Spurs for failing to ensure that their players behaved in an “inappropriate and/or provocative” manner in relation to the red card incident, and West Ham for failing to ensure this that their players did not behave in an “inappropriate and/or violent manner” at the same time. All three parties have until Thursday to respond to the allegations.

West Ham are self-destructing and exposing deep-rooted problems

West Ham face Manchester United next weekend before taking on Nottingham Forest and Everton. Newcastle United and Arsenal will follow later this month.

“I didn't see the action on TV, but I think if the referee checked it and decided it was a red card, I can have no doubt,” West Ham coach Julen Lopetegui said after the game BBC.

“Perhaps it is another point that needs to be improved. When we suffer in the bad moments, we stay calm and fight as a team until the end.”

The defeat at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium leaves West Ham 15th in the Premier League with just two wins from their first eight games of the season.
