What are we voting on today in Nashville and Middle Tennessee?

Election Day doesn't just mean the election of the next President of the United States. On November 5, Tennesseans will vote on representation at the federal, state and local levels.

At the federal level, Tennesseans vote on the next president and members of the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives. In 2024, voters will vote in all 99 Tennessee House of Representatives districts. Only even-numbered state Senate seats are up for election.

Locally, Nashvillians are voting on Mayor Freddie O'Connell's transit referendum, the $3.1 billion plan that would fund improvements to the city's transportation system.

On the way to the election? Here's what and who is on the ballot in Middle Tennessee.

US President

Tennesseans and citizens across the country are casting their vote for the 47th President of the United States – Kamala Harris or Donald Trump.

U.S. Senate – Tennessee

The only statewide race in 2024 is a fight for the U.S. Senate, where incumbent U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tennessee, is seeking a second six-year term against Democratic Rep. Gloria Johnson.

U.S. House of Representatives – Tennessee

All nine U.S. House seats are up for election in Tennessee in 2024, and Districts 4 through 7 touch parts of the Nashville and Middle Tennessee region.

Former Nashville Mayor Megan Barry is challenging Mark Green, R-Clarksville. First-time candidate and activist Maryam Abolfazli is running against Andy Ogles, R-Columbia, and Lincoln County Democratic Party Chairwoman Victoria Broderick is challenging Scott DesJarlais, R-Murfreesboro.

Middle Tennessee State Senate

Tennessee State Senate District 14 – Incumbent Sen. Shane Reeves, R-Smyrna, is being challenged by ER Smith, Democrat

Tennessee State Senate District 18 – Incumbent Sen. Ferrell Haile, R-Gallatin, is being challenged by Laura A. Black, Independent, John Gentry, Independent, and Walter S. Chandler, Democrat

Tennessee State Senate District 20 – Incumbent Sen. Heidi Campbell, D-Nashville, is being challenged by Rep. Wyatt Rampy

Tennessee State Senate District 22 – Incumbent Sen. Bill Powers, R-Clarksville, is being challenged by Democrat Karen Reynolds

Tennessee State Senate District 28 — Incumbent Sen. Joey Hensley, R-Hohenwald, is being challenged by Democrat James Dallas

Middle Tennessee State House of Representatives

Tennessee House of Representatives District 13 — Incumbent Rep. Robert Stevens, R-Smyrna, is being challenged by Democrat Jonathan Yancey

District 34 of the Tennessee House of Representatives — Incumbent Rep. Tim Rudd, R-Murfreesboro, is being challenged by Democrat Amelia Pant

District 35 of the Tennessee House of Representatives — Incumbent Rep. William Slater, R-Gallatin, is being challenged by Democrat Lexi Melton

District 37 of the Tennessee House of Representatives — Incumbent Rep. Charlie Baum, R-Murfreesboro, is being challenged by Democrat Cheri Brown.

District 44 of the Tennessee House of Representatives – Incumbent Rep. William Lamberth, R-Portland, is being challenged by Democrat Brian Robertson

District 45 of the Tennessee House of Representatives – Incumbent Rep. Johnny Garrett, R-Goodlettsville, is being challenged by Democrat Alison Beale

District 46 of the Tennessee House of Representatives – Incumbent Clark Boyd, R-Lebanon, is being challenged by Democrat Joni Cochran

District 49 of the Tennessee House of Representatives — Incumbent Rep. Mike Sparks, R-Smyrna, is being challenged by Luis Mata, Democrat

Tennessee House of Representatives District 50 – Incumbent Rep. Bo Mitchell, D-Nashville, is being challenged by Republican Jennifer Frensley Webb

Tennessee House of Representatives District 51 — Incumbent Rep. Aftyn Behn, D-Nashville, is being challenged by Independent Rep. Jeff Ketelsen

Tennessee House of Representatives District 52 – Incumbent Rep. Justin Jones, D-Nashville, is being challenged by Republican Laura Nelson

Tennessee House of Representatives District 53 – Incumbent Rep. Jason Powell, D-Nashville, is being challenged by Yog Nepal, Republican, and Rueben I Dockery, Independent

Tennessee House of Representatives District 60 – Chad Bobo, Republican, and Shaundelle Brooks, Democrat

Tennessee House of Representatives District 61 — Incumbent Rep. Gino Bulso, R-Brentwood, is being challenged by Democrat Claire Jones and Independent Alana LeBlanc

Tennessee House of Representatives District 63 – Incumbent Rep. Jake McCalmon, R-Franklin, will be replaced by Dr. Laura Andreson, Democrat, challenged

Tennessee House of Representatives District 64 — Incumbent Rep. Scott Cepicky, R-Culleoka, is being challenged by Democrat Eileen H. Longstreet

Tennessee House of Representatives District 65 – Lee Reeves, Republican, and LaRhonda Williams, Democrat

Tennessee House of Representatives District 68 – Aron Maberry, Republican, and Garfield Scott, Democrat

Tennessee House of Representatives District 75 — Incumbent Rep. Jeff Burkhart, R-Clarksville, is being challenged by Democrat Allie Phillips

District 78 of the Tennessee House of Representatives – Incumbent Rep. Mary Littleton, R-Dickson, is being challenged by Democrat Deborah Castle Doyle

Tennessee House of Representatives District 92 — Incumbent Rep. Todd Warner, R-Chapel Hill, is being challenged by Democrat Teri Mai

Nashville's transit referendum

The “Choose How You Move” transportation improvement plan aims to dramatically improve the city’s transportation system and fund improvements to the city’s bus system, sidewalks, traffic signals and more.

The transit plan includes a half-cent sales tax increase for Davidson County, increasing the combined state and local sales tax from 9.25% to 9.75%.
