What caused Lisa Marie Presley's death?

Presley was 54 – 12 years older than her father, Elvis Presley, who died on August 16, 1977. (Elvis died of a heart attack, according to the Shelby County Medical Examiner, although later reports suggested drug use contributed to his ill health.)

In a report released on January 14, 2023, the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office attributed Lisa Marie Presley's death to “consequences of a small intestinal obstruction.” “Consequences” as a medical term refers to an aftereffect or secondary condition. The report cited Presley's previous “bariatric surgery” as a contributing factor to the death, but was not the immediate cause of death.

In Presley's case, the surgery was a gastric bypass, which reduced the size of her stomach and rerouted part of her small intestine into the smaller pouch.
