What to Watch This Week: 'NCIS' Spinoff 'NCIS: Origins'

The proceedings begin on the Left Coast as the rookie tries to gain a foothold at Camp Pendleton's Naval Intelligence Service (NIS). The younger Gibbs comes under the wing of the wild Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid as a recurring character originated by Muse Watson), his immediate superior. “NCIS: Origins,” executive produced by Harmon and his son Sean Harmon, marks the sixth installment in the money-minting series.

The “NCIS” doubleheader leads a week of CBS dramas. “FBI” is on the road on Tuesdays with the original and two variants, “FBI: International” and “FBI: Most Wanted.” On Friday, “SWAT” marches, “Fire Country” burns and “Blue Bloods” serves its final family dinner in the 14th and final season of the long-running series. On Sunday, Queen Latifah will be even more prominent as “The Equalizer,” premiering the fifth season at 9:30 p.m

Travis Kelce hosts “Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?”Adam Rose/Prime Video

1. Prime Video launches a new game show, “Are you smarter than a celebrity?” on Wednesday, hosted by Kansas City Chiefs tight end (and No. 1 Taylor Swift fan) Travis Kelce. The high-energy weekly competition for $100,000 in prize money has a dazzling quiz show format. Common people compete to answer general knowledge questions (this isn't “Jeopardy!”). When stumped, competitors can turn to deep B-listers like Sophia Stallone, Garcelle Beauvais, Lilly Singh and Ron Funches for a lifeline.

2. shrinkagereturns to AppleTV+ for a second season on Wednesday. The workplace dramedy revolves around a therapy practice, its three psychiatrists, its patients and its extended family. The endearingly wacky series from the creators of “Ted Lasso” and “Scrubs” stars Harrison Ford in his first regular sitcom role (he also starred in the drama “1923,” a “Yellowstone” spin-off). the site of comic veteran Jason Segel. There's undeniably quirky chemistry between the two, with Ford being the ultimate straight man. Jessica Williams rounds out the workout, while there are plenty of familiar sitcom faces (Wendie Malick, Christa Miller, Michael Urie and Ted McGinley). “Scrubs” star Zach Braff directed several episodes.

3. Manuel Garcia-Rulfo's Mickey Haller still practices in his Lincoln Navigator and continues to prosecute crimes from the comfort of his car in season three “The Lincoln Lawyer.” The Ted Humphrey-developed David E. Kelley creation, which hits Netflix this Thursday, is a solid, fast-paced, personality-driven legal thriller. The plot of the ten-episode third season is based on “The Gods of Guilt”, Michael Connelly's fifth book in the series, which also spawned the 2011 Matthew McConnaughey film. And yes, this season it is personal. Haller defends the alleged murderer of one of his regular customers, Glory Days. It's up to the Los Angeles defense attorney to uncover a labyrinthine conspiracy and free the defendant, all while evading repeated assassination attempts on Haller.

4. Peacock adds “Hysteria” to its original series offerings on Friday. The eight-part thriller stars Julie Bowen, Bruce Campbell and Garret Dillahunt. In the satanic panic of the '80s, the small town with the unfortunate name of Happy Hollow is reeling when its star high school quarterback mysteriously disappears. Rumors of increasing occult activity are clouding the hunt for the football star. When a lackluster local heavy metal band, Dethkrunch, tries to exploit the growing hysteria by turning to Satanism to gain attention, the trio become prime suspects. Can Dethkrunch shred his way out? “This Is Spinal Tap” meets “Castle Rock.”

5. On Saturday at 7 p.m. on Disney+ “2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony” will air live from Cleveland. Mary J. Blige, Cher, Ozzy Osbourne, Dave Matthews Band, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Jimmy Buffett, Dionne Warwick, A Tribe Called Quest and Foreigner are among the various musical groups being inducted. Dua Lipa, Kelly Clarkson, Jelly Roll, Keith Urban and James Taylor are expected to perform at the Rock Hall salute, making for a potentially wild night of music. The ceremony will be available to stream on Hulu the following day and will air on ABC at a later date.
