Election Day is not a federal holiday. Some states observe Election Day as a holiday, but Tennessee is not one of those states.

According to Tennessee state law, voters in Tennessee “have the right to take a reasonable amount of time off work, up to three hours, during poll hours in order to vote.”

Employers can specify an employee's absence times and require that the employee request election leave by noon on the day before the election.

When do the polling stations open?

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. in Shelby County and Memphis

Voters in line by 7 p.m. can stay in line until they can cast their vote.
