When is the inauguration? When will former President Trump take office?

Former President Donald Trump returns to the White House after a decisive victory Tuesday night.

The next big chapter in Trump's return is Inauguration Day. The inauguration of Trump – the 45th and 47th presidents – is scheduled for Monday, January 20, 2025, at the US Capitol in Washington, DC. Trump will take the oath of office around noon that day and swear: “I solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully discharge the office of President of the United States and to preserve, protect and defend to the best of my ability the Constitution of the United States.”

Trump will become president immediately after his inauguration.

Trump is only the second person elected to two non-consecutive terms in the White House. The first was Grover Cleveland, considered the 22nd and 24th Presidents of the United States, serving from March 1885 to March 1889 and again from March 1893 to March 1897.

Vice President-elect JD Vance, R-Ohio, will take his own oath of office before Trump.

Vice presidents take the same oath as members of Congress and other federal officials:

“I solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and support the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will show him true faith and loyalty; that I undertake this obligation voluntarily, without any mental reservation or intention to evade; and that I will discharge well and faithfully the duties of the office into which I am about to enter: so help me, O God.”
