Whoopi Goldberg refuses to say Trump's name after election victory

“The View” hosts — Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro, Joy Behar and Alyssa Farah Griffin — came together on the Nov. 6 episode of the ABC talk show to reflect on Donald Trump's victory over Kamala Harris in the Year 2024 to respond to presidential election. All six women voted for Harris, even outspoken Republican and former Trump adviser Griffin.

“So what happened last night?” Goldberg asked her co-hosts, without mentioning Trump’s name. She later told them: “He’s the president. I still won't say his name. That won’t change.”

“I am deeply disturbed,” Hostin said of the election results. “If you look at the New York Times this morning, the headline was 'America Makes a Dangerous Choice.'” I think in 2016 we didn't know what we were going to get from a Trump administration. We know it now. We now know that he will have almost unlimited power. Actually, I'm not worried about myself. I'm not worried about my position in life. I worry about the working class. I'm worried about my mother, a retired teacher. I am concerned about our elderly and their social security and medical care. I worry about the future of my children, especially my daughter, who has fewer rights than me.”

“As a woman of color, I had great hope that a mixed-race woman married to a Jewish man could be elected president of this country,” she added. “It had nothing to do with politics. This was a referendum on cultural resentment in this country.”

Behar has long been one of Trump's fiercest opponents, but her conclusion from the 2024 presidential election was that “the system worked.”

“We live in a democracy. People spoke. That’s what people wanted,” she said. “I vehemently disagree with the Americans' decision, but I am very, very confident that we have a democratic system in this country. We should value it. We should love it. We should protest when the situation arises where we need to protest, and I am sure it will. I've been there before with Nixon. We have a country and we can keep it.”

Navarro added: “I have no regrets. I worked incredibly hard to elect the first black, Asian woman president. The story has slipped through our fingers again. I worked like hell to keep Donald Trump from becoming president. But today, unlike Donald Trump and his supporters, I recognize that he won. I hope the best for our country. I am committed to our LGBTQ, our immigrants, our elders, young girls and women, we will not stop fighting. We can be sad today. Today we can be sad. Tomorrow we get up and carry on.”

Haines echoed that sentiment, telling viewers, “Let's keep fighting for the people we care about. “I'm still optimistic because I'm arm in arm with people who agree with me.”

During “The View” episode that aired on Election Day, Griffin announced that she voted for Harris and revealed that it was the first time in her life that she supported a Democratic presidential candidate. Responding to Trump's victory the next day, Griffin said people often forget about “rural America.”

“The working class feels left behind. They feel like the powerful, the elite only cares about them and their power. He talked to them,” Griffin said of Trump. “We may not have liked his words, but they worked for him… We need to lower the temperature, the name-calling, the demonization. If they want to do it, they can do it. It’s a moment to listen to voters.”

Former View host Meghan McCain ABC shouted Just before the episode aired because he had filled every seat with a Harris voter, he posted on that he just won't let his followers deter him from telling America why he's still so popular.

The hosts of “The View” have been so outspoken against Trump throughout the election season that Trump called them “really stupid people” at a campaign rally in Reading, Pennsylvania, last month. He then recalled that he once hired Goldberg for a comedy event at one of his casinos, but he criticized her act as “dirty, dirty” and “disgusting.”
