Why doesn't Jasprit Bumrah play in the third Test against New Zealand? BCCI provides worrying update

Indian cricket team fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was not included in the starting XI for the third Test match against New Zealand in Mumbai on Friday. India captain Rohit Sharma said Bumrah was “not well” and had been replaced in the team by Mohammed Siraj. “We understand that we didn't play well in this series. Looks like a good playing field. Hopefully we can limit them as quickly as possible. Our focus is on this test match. Bumrah is not well, Siraj is coming for him,” Rohit said while throwing.

BCCI also took to social media to provide an update on Bumrah.

“Mr Jasprit Bumrah has not yet fully recovered from his viral illness. He was unavailable for the third Test in Mumbai,” BCCI wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

New Zealand captain Tom Latham won the toss and elected to bat.

“We will have a bat. Looks like a reasonably good surface, I hope we can get a few runs on the board again and apply some pressure later. I will definitely focus on this game. We spoke about it before the second Test in Pune. What.” What we did in Bangalore was great, but we had to quickly focus on the second Test and nothing changed. It's a fun game – Test cricket, I don't think we've played it all. Unfortunately there's not much you can do about the result. We tried to keep things simple and hope for more. “This game is about getting used to the surface as quickly as possible. Ish Sodhi is fit and comes in for Tim Southee.”

Teams:

New Zealand: Tom Latham(c), Devon Conway, Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell(f), Glenn Phillips, Ish Sodhi, Matt Henry, Ajaz Patel, William O'Rourke.

India: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant(f), Sarfaraz Khan, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj.
