Why is Cincinnati Bengals rookie Jermaine Burton inactive Sunday against the Raiders?

CINCINNATI – Bengals rookie wide receiver Jermaine Burton is surprisingly inactive on Sunday.

The 23-year-old is healthy and the Bengals have made him an important part of the offensive game plan all week.

What has changed?

According to multiple league sources, Burton was a no-call, no-show in Saturday's walkthrough.

“I’m working on it,” Burton’s agent, Trevon Smith, said via text message. “Still maturing and growing.”

The Bengals selected Burton in the third round (80th overall) in the 2024 NFL Draft. He had a 41-yard catch against the Eagles last week and has two catches this season.

Head coach Zac Taylor and star quarterback Joe Burrow praised Burton ahead of Sunday's game against the Raiders.

They built their game plan around him this week with Tee Higgins nursing a quadriceps injury.

Apparently that changed after missing the walkthrough on Saturday.

Hopefully we'll find out more details after the game. According to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic, the Bengals team is expected to address the situation after Sunday's game.
