Will Cooper Kupp be on the move?

Will Cooper Kupp be on the move?

Last week, Pro Bowl wide receivers Amari Cooper and Davante Adams went from disappointing teams in decline to teams looking for something more.

Will another be added by the NFL trade deadline on November 5th?

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reports on a number of players coming up in trade rumors around the league. The list is led by Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp, including New York Jets wideout Mike Williams and seven other players at various positions. Rapoport's report casts a wide net and is worth your time if you're trying to get a feel for the excitement surrounding the NFL as the trade deadline approaches in 16 days.

It's also worth noting that this includes Chicago Bears running back Khalil Herbert and offensive lineman Nate Davis other Player Rapoport is considering names as potential players that have reportedly drawn interest in trade talks surrounding the NFL. We already discussed the rumors about Herbert and Davis in this article on Sunday.

NFL trade rumors are increasing

It's hard to imagine the Rams parting ways with Cooper Kupp. The Super Bowl LVI MVP is one of the NFL's best wide receivers when healthy. Kupp has reliable hands and crisp route-running skills. When healthy, Kupp is a threat in the open field and difficult to guard. But injuries prevented Kupp from reaching his full potential. And with Rapoport pointing out that Kupp is due $20 million in cash over each of the next three years, it's understandable why Los Angeles' front office would look to free up cap space and some draft capital from one to collect the team in need of the recipient.

If the Rams decide to trade Kupp, it could have a trickle-down effect for a number of playoff contenders. With the Bears looking for a postseason berth, I'm more interested in the NFL's trade deadline this year than in previous years.

Check out the other names from Rap Sheet's list that are reportedly drawing interest in trade talks:

  • Preston SmithGreen Bay Packers defensive end
  • Andre DillardGreen Bay Packers offensive lineman
  • Azeez OjulariNew York Giants edge defender
  • Quinton JeffersonCleveland Browns defenseman
  • Miles SandersCarolina Panthers running back
  • While offensive and defensive players will likely be on the Bears' shopping list at the trade deadline, I don't see Chicago and Green Bay doing deals with each other. However, potential moves for Preston Smith and Andre Dillard could impact the Bears' search for players at those positions on other teams. Something similar could be said about Miles Sanders, whose place on the trade block could impact the market for teams that might target Khalil Herbert in a trade.

Of the names Rapoport lists above, I think Azeez Ojulari and Quinton Jefferson are plausible fits as potential trade targets for the Bears at the NFL trade deadline. In a world where you can't have too much pass rush help, the 24-year-old Ojulari could be a useful addition. Ojulari has just 11 sacks in 24 games since collecting 8 sacks in 17 contests as a rookie in 2021, but adding another veteran pass rusher could be on Bears GM Ryan Poles' agenda. As for Jefferson, the 31-year-old defensive tackle could potentially round out the depth on the team's interior defensive line.

In the end, it will be interesting to see which teams continue to release names on the trading block. I expect the NFL trade rumor mill to continue churning over the next 16 days. And part of me believes the Bears will make (and receive) calls.
