He won't care because of the end result, but Giancarlo Stanton stands alone.

Rarely is a Yankees record set, such is the history of the organization, but no one in Yankees history has hit more home runs in a single postseason than their powerhouse designated hitter.

Stanton hit a home run in the third inning, his seventh hit in 14 postseason games, during the 7-6 loss in Game 5 of the World Series to the Dodgers in the Bronx, which was not lost because of Stanton.

Stanton scored the Yankees' fifth run of the night with a home run off Ryan Brasier and scored their sixth, final run of the season with a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the sixth.

All year, Stanton has indicated that situational hitting is an area he needs to focus on. With runners on the corners against overpowering righty Brusdar Graterol, Stanton managed to get under a first-pitch slider and send it to the warning track in left-center. Juan Soto scored the run that might have been the difference if the Dodgers hadn't managed a comeback in the eighth.

After a comeback season that wasn't particularly stellar, Stanton flipped a switch in October. He drove in a run in 10 of 14 games that month, up to 16 total, and scored 15 of 55 while steadily improving until the end – except for his last one.

Stanton got a chance in the bottom of the eighth when he came to the plate with two out and the Yankees trailing.

He flew to the right, a last attempt failed.

With a walk in the second inning, Juan Soto extended a 25-game postseason streak on base dating back to Game 2 of the 2022 wild-card series when he was with the Padres.

Soto is tied with Boog Powell for fifth place all-time in a category that Miguel Cabrera leads with 31 consecutive spots.

The Yankees kept the same lineup as the night before, which featured left-hander Jazz Chisholm Jr. in cleanup and split right-hander Judge and No. 5 hitter Stanton.

Austin Wells, who was on the bench in Game 3, was back at catcher and batted in the eighth after hitting a home run in Game 4.

Before Wednesday's vital game, the Yankees planned to fly to Los Angeles on Thursday, where there would be a rest day with no practice before Game 6, which would have taken place on Friday.

They will not make the journey.
