Throw New Zealand chose Bat vs Pakistan

Sophie Devine made it straight from the toss in Dubai and New Zealand elected to bat against Pakistan in their final league game of the Women's T20 World Cup. A win would be enough for New Zealand to qualify for the semi-finals, at the expense of India, who will be watching nervously and want Pakistan to chase their target after 10.4 overs, assuming it is 101 runs or less to make it create knockouts for the fourth time in a row.
Pakistan were boosted by the return of regular captain Fatima Sana, who replaced talented all-rounder Tuba Hassan in the starting XI. That gives them three seam bowling options, with Aliya Riaz and Iram Javed also in the mix. The last time they played New Zealand, Pakistan beat them for the first time in a bilateral T20I series – a 2-1 return leg in New Zealand in December 2023.
Against a heavily right-handed Pakistan line-up, New Zealand brought in left-handed spinner Fran Jonas for offspinner Leigh Kasperek, who played with a full complement of left-handers against Sri Lanka. Devine again wanted to get a high score on the surface being more suitable for batting, saying, “If anything, this surface could deteriorate as the night goes on.”
The match was played at the same stadium where New Zealand played against India. One square boundary (63 m) is significantly longer than the other (53 m), with the cover pocket being hit the longest at 74 m.
