WPIAL announces starting order for 2024 Girls Soccer Championships

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) set its round times for the WPIAL/UPMC Sports Medicine Girls' Soccer Championships on Wednesday. 61 teams qualified by finishing in the top four (including ties) of their respective section after the regular season.

The teams competed in three different sections of Class 4A and four different sections of Class 1A, Class 2A and Class 3A, playing each of their section opponents twice. Teams received three points for a win and one for a draw.

Class 4A section champions were Penn-Trafford (12-4-0, 9-1-0) in Section I, Peters Township (15-0-1, 9-0-1) in Section II and Seneca Valley (12-0 -1, 9-0-1) in Section II. 2-2, 7-0-1) in Section III. All three schools survived a multi-year drought, with Penn-Trafford winning in 2017, Peters Township in 2020 and Seneca Valley in 2018.

In Class 3A, Fox Chapel (15-1-1, 10-0-0) won Section I, Moon (12-3-0, 10-2-0) and West Allegheny (13-3-1, 10-2). ). -0) divided Section II, South Fayette (13-3-0, 10-0-0) captured Section III and Plum (15-1-0, 12-0-0) captured Section IV. Plum now has six section titles in consecutive wins, while Moon has won four in a row and five in the last six years.

The Class 2A section winners were South Park (12-4-1, 12-0-0) in Section I, Freeport (11-1-1, 8-1-1) in Section II and Mt. Pleasant (14th). -1-1, 8-1-1) in Section II. 1-0, 10-0-0) in Section IV. As section winners in Class 1A were Eden Christian Academy (8-7-1, 7-2-1) in Section I, Bentworth (15-1-0, 9-1-0) in Section II, Seton LaSalle (12) -2-2, 10-1-1) in Section III and Springdale (13-1-0, 12-0-0) in Section IV. Springdale has now won three in the last four seasons while winning for Bentworth and Seton LaSalle is the first since 2019.

Last season, all four WPIAL girls soccer champions went 1-0. Fox Chapel triumphed in overtime against North Allegheny in Class 4A, South Fayette won its first win in school history with a double-overtime win over Moon in Class 3A, Avonworth completed a three-peat in Class 2A with a win against Shady Side Academy and Freedom Area defeated Riverview to defend its Class 1A title.

The WPIAL/UPMC Sports Medicine Girls' Soccer Championships begin Thursday, Oct. 17, with a preliminary round game in Class 1A. Championship games will be played between October 31st and November 31st. 2 at Highmark Stadium, exact dates and times to be determined. The top two teams in Class 4A and the top three teams in Classes 1A, 2A and 3A will compete in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Girls' Soccer Championships, beginning Tuesday, Nov. 5, with first-round games All championship games will take place on November 15th and 16th at Eagle View Middle School in Mechanicsburg.
