Rhea Ripley will be sidelined indefinitely due to a fractured orbit around her right eye, an injury she sustained on Tuesday night at NXT.

DEVELOPING STORY: Following last night's brutal attack by Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez in the NXT parking lot, Rhea Ripley has suffered a fractured right eye socket and will be out of action for an undisclosed amount of time.

Ripley was left covered in blood in the parking lot after an attack by Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. The attack itself was not shown in the broadcast; the camera filmed Morgan and Rodriguez leaving the scene.

It's unclear if the backstage attack was intended to explain a legitimate injury to Ripley or if this is simply a way to keep her off television for the time being.

If the latter is the case, it's surprising that WWE temporarily removed her from the picture since she only returned in July after a lengthy absence. Just over a week after defeating Becky Lynch at WrestleMania XL, she was forced to withdraw from the Women's World Championship in April due to a shoulder injury sustained in an attack by Morgan.

After her return, Ripley was unable to seek revenge at SummerSlam thanks to Dominik Mysterio's betrayal.

The way their rematch ended at Bad Blood made fans believe the story wasn't over yet. Ripley won by disqualification, meaning Morgan retained her title.

Survivor Series: WarGames is still a month away. There's still a chance that Tuesday's attack and Wednesday's announcement could spark a rubber match between Ripley and Morgan on this show.

But saying that Ripley is on hold for an “unknown period of time” will have many fans wondering if that could extend until the Royal Rumble in February, as that is the next major premium live event after Survivor Series is about.
