Zach Edey's statement after Memphis Grizzlies vs. Philadelphia 76ers

Zach Edey had one of the best performances of his young NBA career on Saturday night against the Philadelphia 76ers. It was a game in which the Grizzlies led from the start and defeated the undermanned 76ers 124-107.

Edey scored 10 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block while shooting 57% in just 22 minutes. Those ten rebounds included five offensive rebounds, which is something Edey specifically targeted against the 76ers.

“We knew they were an offensive rebounding team, they were second in the league,” Edey said. “So that’s a big part of their offense, they score about 20 second-chance points. We came into the game with this mentality, we have to limit that.”

In six games this season, Edey averaged 9.0 points and 5.0 rebounds on 58% shooting from the field. Edey hasn't put together the rookie of the year quite the way everyone expected, but he knows the process will take time.

“I just try to take it game by game and get better game by game,” Edey said. “That’s what I did in college. When I was a freshman, no one really knew me, but when I was a senior, I just tried to take it one game at a time.”

After a slow start, the Memphis Grizzlies now have a 4-3 record and a two-game winning streak.
